Job Full Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Trucking Operations manager to lead the operations of our livestock hauling enterprise.  This role involves scheduling loads, maintaining compliance and maintenance records, managing key operational logistics, and ensuring strict sanitation protcols are met.  The ideal candidate will possess or be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), although driving will not be their primary responsibility.  We are looking for a proactive leader, who demonstrates exceptional self-accountability and can operate with minimal oversight.  

Key Responsibilities: 

Load Scheduling and Coordination:

  • Plan and coordinate daily and weekly livestock transport schedules to maximize efficiency and meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate with drivers, livestock handlers, and dispatch teams to ensure timely and safe transport
  • Optimize routes and load assignments for efficient and human livestock transportation

Maintenance Oversight: 

  • Maintain accurate records for all fleet maintenance and inspections
  • Schedule regular maintenance and repairs to ensure the fleet meets safety and operational standards
  • Coordinate with mechanics and service providers for prompt repairs and upkeep

Compliance Management (Prorate/IFTA):

  • Track and manage International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) reports and prorate registrations
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, maintaining all necessary documentation for adults
  • Implement process for tracking fuel usage, mileage, and other compliance metrics effectively

Sanitation Scheduling and Execution:

  • Develop and oversee strict sanitation schedules for trucks and equipment to meet health and safety regulations
  • Ensure proper cleaning procedures are followed after livestock transport to prevent disease transmission and meet biosecurity standards
  • Coordinate with sanitation teams and monitor compliance with sanitation protocols

CDL Knowledge and Capability: 

  • Hold or be willing to obtain a CDL, understanding that driving may be occasionally be required but is not the primary role
  • Stay informed on changes to CDL requirements and best practices specific to livestock transport

Job Experience

Desired Transportation Operations Manager candidates will possess: 

  • Proven experience in livestock transport operations or a related logistics/transportation role

  • Strong oroganizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage scheduling, compliance, and sanitation
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to build trust and promote teamwork
  • Familiarity with trucking software and tools for load trucking, maintenance, and sanitation records
  • Ability to work independently, set priorities, and take initiative without constant supervision
  • A CDL or willingness to acquire one is essential for this position
  • Previous experience managing a livestock-hauling fleet is highly desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of livestock handling regulations, safety, and biosecurity measures
  • A proactive mindset with problem-solving skills to anticipate operational challenges
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, growing business environment and adapting to change
