People & Culture Manager Job Summary:
Mel Trotter Ministries exists to serve individuals experiencing hunger and homelessness with dignity and compassion. The People & Culture Manager plays a critical role in advancing this mission by leading the development of a thriving internal culture rooted in shared values, clear strategy, and strong leadership alignment.
This role oversees human resources and organizational culture strategy, focusing on talent development, employee engagement, leadership support, and a high-performing, values-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings deep HR expertise, experience working with executive leadership, a passion for cultivating strong organizational culture and systems, and feels called to support the vision and mission of the organization.
People & Culture Manager Responsibilities:
- Lead HR strategy and execution aligned with organizational goals and core values
- Partner directly with the CEO and senior leadership to design and implement long-term people strategies
- Facilitate the development and refinement of organizational values and culture initiatives
- Lead HR team to success through managing full-cycle talent acquisition, onboarding, and retention strategies
- Champion staff engagement programs and internal communication efforts to foster strong organizational culture and sense of belonging
- Oversee performance development processes, including leadership coaching and team development
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and HR policies with a focus on ethical leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team on workforce planning and people strategy
- Lead compensation and benefits planning in partnership with finance and executive leadership
- Provide support and guidance for complex employee relations matters with discretion and care
- Drive organization-wide training and development efforts, with a focus on leadership pipeline development
- Support and execute the initiatives of the strategic plan set by the CEO and senior leadership
Schedule: Monday to Friday, full-time
Job Experience
People & Culture Manager Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including strategic planning and leadership coaching
- Proven track record of working closely with executive and C-suite leaders
- Experience in facilitating value-setting or culture-defining processes within an organization
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Deep knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and people analytics
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive initiatives forward
Preferred Qualifications:
- Senior HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent)
- Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Background in organizational development, change management, or strategic planning
- Experience in an Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)
Job Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
