Job Full Description:
A local, faith-based non-profit organization in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a dedicated HR Generalist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources management, particularly in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and benefits administration. This role will be responsible for managing the full scope of HR processes, from ensuring HR best practices to fostering a positive and compliant work environment. The HR Generalist will work closely with department heads and leadership to support staff and organizational growth, as well as make a difference in the lives of others by contributing to the non-profit’s mission.
HR Generalist Responsibilities:
- Manage the recruitment process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and making hiring recommendations.
- Develop and implement best practices for the interviewing and selection process.
- Oversee the onboarding process, ensuring new hires have a smooth transition into the organization and are set up for success.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries and provide ongoing education and guidance.
- Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, mediating disputes, and providing guidance on workplace behavior.
- Provide support for employee performance management, including coaching, corrective actions, and conducting investigations when needed.
- Assist with the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, benefits, and payroll information.
- Use HR software to manage employee data and generate reports as needed.
- Work closely with leadership and department heads to understand staffing needs, organizational goals, and employee performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a supportive, productive, and faith-driven organizational culture.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in HR processes to increase efficiency and employee satisfaction.
- Stay informed of current HR trends, best practices, and legal requirements to keep the organization compliant and competitive.
Schedule: Full-Time, Direct-Hire
Job Experience
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources, with a strong focus on recruiting, interviewing, benefits administration, and employee relations.
- Previous experience in a faith-based or nonprofit environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.
- Experience with HRIS systems and payroll software.
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Job Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
